Subject: your navy service
Hi Dale,
I was looking on the internet to find the ships I was on during the
war. I was so pleased to see your site and I can't tell you how much I
have enjoyed it. I was in the Marines and I was on your ship, but only
overnight from Munda to Banika. I served in the Pacific from 1942 to
1945. We shipped out from Norfolk and went down through the Panama
Canal. I was on the following islands: Pago Pago, Samoa, Noumea, New
Hebrides, Guadalcanal, Tulagi, Rendova, Munda, Banika, Enewitok,
Kwajalein, Saipan and Guam. I was on the following ships: Attack
transports HENRY T. ALLEN, HARRY LEE & ORMSBY, Destroyer escort
DENT, LST395, LCI222, Liberty ship RIXEY and Escort carrier COPAHEE. I
really enjoyed the pictures because they looked so familiar to me.You
were quite fortunate to be able to have so many pictures of your
time in the Navy. We were not allowed to have any cameras so I have no
pictures at all. It is always interesting to me to read about others
who served in the war. It is pbvious that we were in the same areas
quite often, so I can relate to what you have written. We are
definitely a dieing breed and the war years were a very large part of
our young lives. I send you my warmest regards and my wish that you
will continue to enjoy a healthy and productive life.
